A Safe Spot is a youth and resource center for foster youth and their allies to connect on a regular basis preparing them for when they age out of the foster care system. A Safe Spot is also a resource center for those youth and young adults who have aged out of the foster care system and are currently homeless or are simply struggling and in need of guidance and assistance.
Our permanent Safe Spot location at 2819 Hillcroft Ave, Houston TX 77057.
All donations are tax deductible
Emergency Kit Safe Saturdays: On the 1st Saturday of each month volunteers from the community join together to assemble donated non-perishable food items along with other necessary items that are packaged and delivered to agencies working with foster youth aging out of CPS, providing emergency kits to these youth in times of need. Each year thousands of young adults ages 17-21 "age out" of the foster care system without having been adopted. Many of these teens leave their foster homes with little more than the clothes on their backs. To volunteer please email volunteeratsafe@gmail.com.
Monthly Youth Group and Foster Parent Training Safe Saturdays: On the 4th Saturday of each month SAFE offers an inclusive monthly youth group meeting available to all foster youth and their allies, currently in CPS, 14-18 years of age from 3-5PM. Pizza, Karaoke, Games, Movies, Discussion, Workshops and an array of other activities are planned for these monthly events. The first hour is educational, informational, conversational and motivational while the second hour is full of fun, games and food!
Foster parents are also invited to attend trainings offered by SAFE at the same location and time to obtain required training hours while their foster youth are attending the youth group. For upcoming trainings offered please email safehouseforall@gmail.com.
Advocate and Mentoring: Volunteers in the community work with our foster youth as advocates and mentors by giving of their time at one of our monthly events.
SAFE Host Home Program: Those foster youth in our program who are aging out and are not prepared for independent living or young adults over 18 years of age who have recently aged out of CPS and have found themselves homeless are paired with a member of our SAFE community who has offered to be a SAFE HOST HOME offering transitional housing in their home averaging 3 to 6 months. Clients living in a "SAFE HOST HOME" must gain employment, attend weekly counseling at the Montrose Counseling Center paid for by SAFE and establish a plan of action with their advocate and mentor.
SAFE Referral Program: Any young adult over 18 years of age who is currently and chronically homeless is referred by SAFE to local organizations who may be able to offer subsidized or transitional housing.
If you are interested in volunteering, please email volunteeratsafe@gmail.com.
